Context of Artihost art & culture residency programme

The Artihost art & culture residency program is the first attempt in Panevėžys (Lithuania) to create a permanent, continuous and professional art and culture residence. Continuity is expected through the implementation of a globally unique residency program based on the establishment of the first hostel in Panevėžys, cooperation with local and international partners, innovative non-formal programs.

The project aims to ensure balanced cultural development in the Panevėžys region by promoting the diversity of creative expressions, cooperation and strengthening the local cultural identity.

Overall Focus

The aim of the Artihost art and culture residencies project is to enable 2 art and culture representatives to create, conduct research and present them in Panevėžys (continuing internationally) in 3 months, involving and collaborating with other artists and culture representatives, art and cultural organizations, the community (Artihost guests, visitors to art events), thus promoting diversity and collaboration of creative expressions and strengthening local cultural identity.

Who Should Attend

Artihost residency program is intended for Lithuanian and international art and culture creators/representatives: literary arts (poetry, drama, story, etc.), the visual arts (painting, drawing, filmmaking, etc.), the graphic arts (painting, drawing, design, etc.), the plastic arts (sculpture, modeling), the decorative arts (enamelwork, furniture design, mosaic, etc.), the performing arts (theatre, dance, music, etc.), music (as composition), architecture (including interior design), researchers, academics, and all other forms of culture and art creators.

Programme

Residents are provided with a comfortable physical infrastructure (opportunity to work and present works in the most famous cultural spaces of Panevėžys and introducing them with local contacts) and a rich package of artistic and cultural self-expression and development, through education and mentoring. We strive to make the residencies convenient and extremely valuable for both the residents themselves and the city. Artihost residents are provided with administrative assistance, tools and periodic meetings of curators, mentors and partner representatives. The Artihost team and an international partner (Abroadship.org from the UK) will provide letters of recommendation applying for additional and further funding for their residency project.

Project objectives

• Attract 2 residents, of whom one would come from Lithuania and one from abroad.
• To contribute to the professional and artistic development of the participating artist-participant:
  • To raise creative-cultural-artistic competencies
  • Encourage the mobilization of developers
  • Inspire the resident for personal development
  • Disseminate the creativity of the resident’s works and increase awareness
  • To increase the skills of residents’ cultural management and communication with the community
• To implement cultural and art projects in a non-traditional environment
• To educate the society on artistic and cultural issues
• To develop the identity of the place (Panevėžys as a city of culture and art, especially theater)
• To improve the living environment by implementing projects that benefit the local community
• Attract visitors
• Promote cultural and artistic tourism activities and flows
• Involve vulnerable groups in society – seniors, young people, children with fewer opportunities in various fields (economic, social, educational, geographical exclusion)

Where

Artihost residence is located in Panevėžys Old Town, Savanorių Square, which until 1929. was the poorest quarter of the Jewish slum Slabada. Residence is nearby central Freedom Square, historic Courthouse, Municipality, Bus station. Located on the top floor of a house built in 1937, the Artihost artists ’residence has 4 living-working, 1 creative-exposition-performance space (64 m2) and 1 meeting space for artists, a total of 212 m2. Each resident is provided with a study, which, together with the common creative space, is allowed to be used as a creative and research space throughout the residency. All studios have furniture and Wi-Fi access.

Practicals – What to Bring!

• Prepare for a 3 months stay bringing whatever is needed for a comfortable stay.

• Bring materials needed for your artistic and cultural creation. You will have some materials available here at the residence, so please check in advance the list available.

• Bring Passport or ID card

• You will have to be vaccinated from COVID-19 with approved vaccine (Phizer, Moderna, Astra Zenecca) and have a certificate.

• Insurance – this is critical! Please bring European Health Card and Insure in other ways because we do not provide and are not liable for any incidents

• Food and traditions to represent for intercultural evenings

• Bring best photo camera, video recorder you have, and of course lots of memory storage.

Weather

• In December-February temperature in Panevėžys, Lithuania ranges from -6 to -1 degrees on average, but can get as low as -37 (recorded in 1956), daylight lasts about 2 hours and of course of course of course beautiful snow is a constant friend and a mandatory discussion subject in all conversations.
